The Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative
Marketing And Consumer's Federation Ltd. an apex Cooperative
Marketing Federation of Himachal Pradesh, popularly known as
Himfed, has its Head Office at Shimla.
It
was registered on 30th June 1952 under the provisions of Indian Cooperative
Societies Act, 1912 and is now covered under the provisions of Himachal
Pradesh Cooperative Societies Act, 1968. It has about 768 cooperative
societies of various types as its members.
Himfed Undertakes multifarious activities to serve the
farming community and the consumers of the state by marketing of farm
produce such as apple, citrus etc., farm inputs such as cartons, trays
etc. & distribution of fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, wheat,
seed potato etc. It plays an important role in the development of Agriculture,
industry, trade and commerce etc. in the state. The main function of
Himfed is to implement the policies and programmes of the Government
and to ensure the distribution, storage and procurement of fertilizer
well in advance so as to prevent any scarcity of this essential commodity
and to make it readily available in the State.
In order to make fertilizers available to the farmers at their doorsteps,
Himfed has opened 93 wholesale Depots, atleast one in each
block head qtrs and 7 farmer's service centres spread all over Himachal
Pradesh, along with the 12 Area Offices located at
district headquarters. Himfed also has a branch office at Delhi for
the marketing of Agricultural and Horticultural products of the farmers.
In
addition to the above, Himfed has a Bottling plant at
Parwanoo, 12 P.D.S Retail Outlets and Petrol Pumps in Shimla, Sarahan
and Chowari. Himfed also opens up collection centres and makes necessary
arrangements for the marketing of agricultural/ horticultural produces
from time to time at the instance of the Government under the Market
Intervention Scheme.

activities are :

Sole procurement and distribution agency of Fertilizers
in the State through 93 wholesale and 7retail sale outlets besides
distribution through the network of Primary Cooperatives Societies.
- Marketing of agricultural/horticultural
produce at reasonable prices.

Procurement of various horticultural/agricultural crops under Market Intervention Scheme/Support
Price scheme.

Authorized dealer of CCI/ ACC/ Ambuja Cement
to the Government agencies/ consumers at competitive rates.

Authorized dealer of Godrej Furniture & Conference
Systems, Typewriters etc.

Supplies farm inputs like pesticides, Organic
manure, Tree
spray oil, spray pumps imported Pruning Secateurs/Shears
and other tools.

Supplies Packing Material
for fruits.

Dealership
of Indian Oil Corporation for sale
of Tree spray oil,
MS, HSD and other POL items through its retail outlets at its petrol
pumps.

Has 93 own Godowns having total capacity
of 36650 MT at almost all the Block Head Quarters.

Is also running about 12 shops in Shimla Town for distribution of
P.D.S and non P.D.S items.

Has entered into Insurance
business as service franchisee for Iffco Tokio
General Insurance Company Ltd.
- Himfed has obtained State consignmentship of SAIL
at Shimla and has also got the retail dealership of Steel
Authority of India Ltd.(SAIL) in most of the Districts in Himachal
Pradesh.

Promotion of Organic
sector in Himachal.
Himfed is also planning to act as state agency for facilitating certification
of organic farms and make available quality inputs and market the
organic produce of Himachal Pradesh at national and international
markets.
